Listen to David Grand, PhD, founder of Brainspotting
Robert Weisz, PhD, discussing Brainspotting
discussing how he discovered Brainspotting while working
with an athlete for sports performance and enhancement.
- Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that helps people access and reprocess what their brains and bodies have not been able to do before. Evidence supports that negative emotions, traumas and anxieties get stored in the brain in maladaptive and self-limiting ways. Brainspotting helps reprocess negative events and retrain the brain.
- Brainspotting helps to stimulate, focus and activate your body's inherent capacity to heal itself. It works in the deep brain and body as it accesses directly the parts of our brains that are driven by emotions and automatic reactions. Brainspotting works primarily on the limbic system which is a collection of brain structures that effect our well-being.
- The limbic system is involved with emotion, memory, cognition, motivation, impulse control. This technique works by Identifying, processing and releasing sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, anxieties, depression and a variety of other challenging issues. When we can reprocess, new learning takes place. This allows us to move ahead into the future in new ways.
- Because brainspotting focuses on eye position and fixation as opposed to the eye movement of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), Dr. Grand feels this approach accesses more specific aspects of the brain and can be used for a wider range of presenting symptoms than EMDR. Dr. Grand has discovered that, to date, brainspotting provides the most specific focus to help reprocess your issues profoundly and at a deeper level.
